02/08/09 Moosehead Lodge Thank you for a fabulous weekend. What a great little spot. My kids especially loved feeding the birds, talking with Buck and playing in the loft. We loved the warm fire and comfy couches! It was great to come back to such a cosy pad after a long cold day in the snow. We will definitely back.
What a fantastic trip! We drove down from Sydney and arrived at around 8.00pm. Our hosts kindly rescued us from a series of misdirected u-turns around Tanjil Bren. Moosehead cottage exceeded all expectations and is much cosier and nicer than the website gives justice. our hosts were very friendly and helpful in explaining the "lay of the land". "BUCK" the talking moose was a particular highlight. On the first day we went on a trek beyond the town spring to a magnificent waterfall where we had lunch. That night we had a splendid BBQ next to the lodge, occasionally interrupted by an impertinent fox who finally fled after I initiated some dodgy wolf impersonations! The next day we went 30km to Noojee, had a nice lunch at the Pub and checked out the Trestle Bridge (impressive but nothing to write home about). The Toorongo Falls, about 1.5km out of Noojee back towards Tanjil Bren was SIMPLY AWESOME. You walk for about 1/2hour up a wonderful waterfall and then down the other side..A+++ That night we roasted a leg of lamb and played chess by the roaring fire. On our final day we collected our complimentary toboggans and headed off for Mt Baw Baw. We had fun tobogganing down the slopes and had a nice meal at the Alpine Hotel and trekked to the summit of Mt Baw Baw. In summary I think Moosehead Lodge is the best place to experience a real winter holiday - the snow and skiing etc is great at Mt Baw Baw but at Moosehead you experience everything alpine life has to offer. Kate, Shane, Eli, Luka, Scott, Cari, Bryce, Minnie, Bryn and Xavier had a great time in Reindeer Lodge. Buck was fantastic. Minnie doesn't like the picture of the guys in chains (they're scary!). We loved the accommodation and thank you for a great stay.
Moosehead Lodge is one of three western style alpine cottages in Tanjil Bren, just 2.5 hours drive from Melbourne. It was great to be able to take our new puppy, Silver, away with us for our well earnt break. The surrounds of these cottages are literally a breath of fresh air, with tall mountain ash gums, huge tree ferns and a spectacular array of birdlife. We even got to hand feed an orange breasted parrot. Silver took us for a walk to Tanjil Falls, with was well worth the effort. We could almost see Tasmania from Mt Baw Baw, which is a novice & cross country ski resort just 20mins drive from Tanjil Bren. These well appointed cottages do not have any electricity, entirely solar & gas operated. The candlelight atmosphere and wood fire took us back to the romance of a by-gone era.
